UPDATE: N. Caldwell Man Dies From Severe Burns
Resident succumbs after he was set on fire Saturday morning.

A North Caldwell man who was airlifted to The Burn Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center Saturday morning with severe burns to nearly 100 percent of his body died at about 2 p.m., Police Chief Mark Deuer said.
According to Deuer, a borough resident in his 20s was found on fire near the corner of Woodland Avenue and East Greenbrook Road at about 7:15 a.m.
A 911 call was made from a driver passing by the scene, Deuer said. The responding officers found the man on fire and extinguished the flames, which appeared to have been burning for several minutes, Deuer said.

The North Caldwell, West Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Fairfield and Essex Fells police departments as well as the North Caldwell Fire Department and West Essex First Aid Squad responded to the scene.
The man was transported to the Essex County Airport where he was airlifted to the Livingston hospital, Deuer said.

"There were very, very serious burns to his entire body," Deuer said. "This is a really, really bad situation."
According to Deuer, the man was found alone and the police are investigating a possible accelerant that was used. Deuer said the cause of the incident is not yet known and under investigation by Detective Bill Texas.
