New York Times Gives Montclair's Upstairs Glowing Review

This hidden gem is not going to be so hidden anymore.

Many of us in Montclair already knew we had a little hidden gem on Valley Road called Upstairs. Now a lot of other people are going to know about it as well.

The New York Times has published a glowing review of Upstairs, the cocktail bar/restaurant just above Dai Kichi in Upper Montclair. The article praised the drinks, the decor, and the freshness of the food.

The article also described "the renovated second-story space with sleek modern finishes and surprises even in the bathrooms. (Spoiler alert: Heated seats!) Seating for 18 in the bar, 12 on high stools opposite the open kitchen, 30 in the dining room in the rear."

The review awarded Upstairs a "Don't Miss" rating—the best it could have given—and said that the "pickled vegetables, duck rillette, foie gras torchon, lamb sausage, tilefish, tagliatelle, blue cheese toast, pork chop, rib-eye, and snapper" are all particularly good.
