North Caldwell Police Investigate Car Break Ins

Two Cars Parked Overnight at High School Broken Into After Project Graduation

North Caldwell Police are continuing to investigate two auto break ins that occurred while newly graduated seniors were attending a Project Graduation celebration.

According to North Caldwell Police Det. Sgt. Bill Texas, after on June 17 the new graduates returned to school to board buses for a planned outing as part of the graduation festivities, leaving their cars overnight in the school parking lot.

Sometime during the night two unlocked cars were broken into, and several items were stolen from the vehicles.  Texas believes the burglaries were committed by someone out of the area, who knew the vehicles would be left unattended for a long period of time.

While the high school does have video cameras, Texas said it is difficult to identify suspects since the parking lot was dark and the quality of the video cameras is not designed for this type of surveillance.

The North Caldwell Police Department reminds residents to lock their vehicles at all times.
