NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — An aging police radio system has North Caldwell town officials pondering the purchase of an upgrade, a report says.
During the North Caldwell Mayor and Council meeting on Aug. 16, Mayor Joe Alessi told attendees that the current system is “extremely old and in very poor condition.” As a result, police officers have had to resort to using their cellphones at some locations in town, such as around James Caldwell High School, Alessi reported.
Alessi added that the North Caldwell radio system also covers Essex Fells, which would be expected to assume part of the costs of the upgrade. A study regarding the issue is expected to be complete in October, the mayor stated.
