Alessi fills the vacancy on the ballot left by Mel Levine who has become the borough administrator.
"The reorganizing of the mayor and council will reduce expenses and provide better service to the residents of North Caldwell," stated acting Mayor Alessi. "After all, who knows North Caldwell better than Mel."
Jim Campbell joined the ticket running for his fourth term on the Council, filling the vacancy created when Alessi decided to run for Mayor.
"I thought I had fulfilled my role on the council and wanted to make room for others to serve. However, I see that there is still work to be done, and believe that my experience on the Council will help move the town forward to meet the economic challenges that face us. I want to support Joe in his new role as Mayor."
Art Rees is a new member of the Council, bringing with him a long history of involvement in the community. He recently was appointed to serve in an interim position on the Council until the end of the year filling Alessi's seat as councilman.
Rees has been a member of the North Caldwell Zoning Board of Adjustment since 2007.
