North Caldwell Student, Eagle Scout Commended

Learn about the Roseland resident and North Caldwell student's Eagle Scout project, and find out his future plans.

NORTH CALDWELL, NJ — The Essex County Board of Chosen Freeholders recently honored William Styskal Jr., a Roseland resident and senior at West Essex Regional High School in North Caldwell, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout.

According to a freeholder news release:

“William began his scouting career in second grade while attending the Lester C. Noecker Grammar School in Roseland where he became a Cub Scout with Roseland Pack 801. As a Cub Scout, he earned Cub Scout’s High Award, the Arrow of Light.

“In February 2011, he became a Boy Scout and joined Caldwell Troop 3, quickly rising through the ranks. In August 2013, he earned the rank of Life Scout and held several leadership positions, including serving as Assistant Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Camp Senior Patrol Leader, and Senior Assistant Patrol Leader. William is also a member of the Boy Scouts Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow, where he earned Ordeal and Brotherhood awards. Additionally, he has earned 29 merit badges, including: Citizenship to the Community, Nation and World, Emergency Preparedness, and Family Life, to name a few.

“For his Eagle Scout project, he enhanced the beauty of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church by constructing a gazebo for the Blessed Mother in the rear of the church, a project he successfully completed in April 2016.

“In addition to his scouting career, William is active with Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church and serves as a Cadet with the Roseland Volunteer Fire Department. He is a member of his school’s football and basketball teams and plans to attend the University of New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut, to study Fire Science. His dream is to become a firefighter and utilize the skills he has learned in scouting to continue to affect the lives of others.”
