Obituary : Brand, Larry

Larry Gene Brand, 73, of Caldwell, NJ, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on June 11, 2026, after a brief illness.

Born in New York City in 1953 and raised in West Milford, NJ, Larry was a skilled auto mechanic and dedicated his career to the automotive industry in West Milford and Warwick NY. He was known not only for his expertise but also for his willingness to help family and friends whenever they needed him. After he married he moved to the Caldwell area where he spent the rest of his adult life.

Larry was an avid fisherman, outdoorsman, animal lover, and gifted storyteller. Whether fishing the waters of NJ, sharing stories with friends, woodworking in his shop, or teaching his grandchildren about nature, he brought enthusiasm, curiosity, and generosity to everything he did. In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at Fairfield Fishing Tackle, where he formed many lasting friendships.

Above all, Larry was devoted to his family. He cherished every moment spent with his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren, and never missed an opportunity to offer his love, support, and guidance.

Larry is survived by his beloved daughter, Jessica (Brand) Hood; son-in-law, Jonathan Hood; cherished grandchildren, Charlotte Gene and Jonathan “Jack” Thomas; lifelong friend and partner, Jeanette DePalma; siblings Louis (Debbie) and Susan Meriwether; and many dear in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear.
