Paterson Police Arrest Alleged Shooters On North York Street

Police arrested two suspects who may have fired shots in Paterson on Sunday.

Paterson police tracked down and arrested two suspects who may have fired shots from a yard on North York Street on Sunday morning.

According to the Paterson Police Department, two officers responded to the site of a shot spotter activation that took place around 5:37 a.m.

At 6:04 a.m., the officers were provided with information that male suspects were hiding in the rear yard of 40 North York Street and responded to the location, parking down the street and approaching the property quietly on foot.

According to police, the officers went to the door of 48 North York Street and overheard individuals inside the location “talking about being involved in the shooting.”

Based on the circumstances at hand, the officers requested backup and knocked on the door. At that time, they allegedly witnessed a man – later identified as Carlos Cruz, 22, of Paterson – flee on foot with what they believed to be a weapon in his hand.

While unsuccessfully attempting to flee, Cruz allegedly discarded three live shotgun shells, police said.

Another suspect on the scene - Betsy Manzor, 26, of Paterson – reportedly attempted to discard an allegedly stolen Glock .45 caliber handgun loaded with five hollowpoint bullets, police stated.

Police charged Manzor with possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm out of Pennsylvania, possession of hollowpoint ammunition and obstruction of a governmental function.

Police charged Cruz with obstruction of governmental functions.
