Prom Season: West Caldwell Students To Get Visit From Jailed Drunk Driver
Matthew Maher killed a father of six children and served 5 years in prison. Now he's got an important message for JCHS students.
West Caldwell, NJ – Just in time for prom season, here comes Matt Maher.
James Caldwell High School in West Caldwell will welcome speaker Matthew Maher at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18. His presentation, "I'm that Guy," is based on Maher’s personal experience with drunk driving and his resulting move from bright and talented student to cellmate, school officials stated.

“A successful student, D-1 and professional soccer player from Cumberland County, Maher was succeeding in every aspect of life, even mentoring young athletes until he made the fatal mistake of driving drunk. Maher got into an accident and killed a father of six children. He served five years in prison. Now, Maher has focused his life on helping other students avoid this life-changing mistake, making an impactful presentation about his life and experience before and after the accident.”
“I made a thousand right decisions - and one wrong [decision],” attested Maher. “That changed everything."
