Ricoh’s West Caldwell Workers Face Mass Layoff

Multi-national corporation Ricoh will lay off 77 employees at its West Caldwell facility in June, a WARN notice says.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ — Multi-national electronics and imaging corporation Ricoh will lay off 77 employees at its West Caldwell facility in June, according to a federal WARN notice. The corporation’s West Caldwell layoffs at its Dedrick Place facility will take place on June 2, according to the DOL.

The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s WARN notices offers protection to workers, their families and communities by requiring employers to provide notice 60 days in advance of covered plant closings and covered mass layoffs.

A Ricoh representative told NJBiz that the mass layoff was a “difficult, but necessary decision, made to more effectively address our customers’ evolving buying patterns.”

According to the notice, employees effected as of June 2 include technical servicing and customer administration workers, as well as sales and sales management staff, NJBiz reported.

Affected workers will receive severance based on employment tenure, as well as accrued vacation time and other benefits where appropriate, the notice stated.
