Shots Fired, Car Chase and Home Invasion In Paterson: Cops Make Arrests
One suspect broke into a Paterson home trying to escape, police said.

Paterson police arrested a pair of men suspected of firing shots in the area of North Main and Jefferson Streets on Sunday following a car chase.
According to the Paterson Police Department, the incident began around 3:05 a.m., when detectives assigned to a crime suppression detail responded to the area on a Shot-Spotter activation.
As detectives arrived on the scene, they allegedly observed a silver minivan “traveling at a high rate of speed and disregarding several traffic control signals” on North 1stStreet, one block from the shots fired report.

The detectives broadcasted a description of the vehicle and got behind it as it allegedly attempted to flee the scene at a high rate of speed.
Police stated that while traveling behind the vehicle on North 4th Street, the vehicle slowed and the occupants discarded two handguns into the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle then stopped and fled the vehicle on foot, while the vehicle’s passenger took control of the van and fled from the scene, police said.
The driver who fled on foot – later identified as Glenmor Kersey, 26 - was apprehended after forcibly entering a residence on Cliff Street in an attempt to flee, police stated.
The silver minivan was stopped by Cease Fire Detectives in the area of 145 Presidential Boulevard, and the driver, Shamaad Elerby, 23, was taken into custody.
Detectives then returned to the North 4 Street area and recovered two loaded handguns, a Ruger 9 mm handgun and a Smith and Wesson .38 revolver.
Both suspects were charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.
Kersey was charged with burglary for forcibly entering the private residence.
Shamaad Elerby was charged with criminal eluding and numerous motor vehicle violations.
