Caldwell Downtown Committee presents check from luau to memorial association.

Councilman Joseph Norton and Council President Ann Dassing, of the Caldwell Downtown Committee, presented Thursday morning a check for $2,920 to the Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association from funds raised from the first Presidential Luau, which was held in April.

The luau at the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell coincided with the fifth annual visit to the borough by native Hawaiian Islanders, who come each year to celebrate Hawaiian Restoration Day.

Hawaiians believe Caldwell native Grover Cleveland, the country's 22nd and 24th president, asked for a day of prayer on April 30 for restoration and healing for the entire country, but specifically the Kingdom of Hawaii.
