A Story Worth Sharing - Laura’s Inspiring Journey in the Super Mom Competition

One night, scrolling on my phone in the wee hours of the night after putting my kids to bed, I stumbled upon a post about a Super Mom competition. I clicked through with suspicion. It featured the infamous Heidi Klum, supermodel and super human. I explored the links that took me to more links and discovered it was a competition for moms that not only supports a great cause but has an attractive prize. It looked legit.

I am a mom, and a solo parent which feels quite super at times in all aspects of the definition of super (super tired, super loved, super at heating up chicken nuggets in the microwave). I took a chance. I signed up. Currently, I am in the third round of competing in Colossal’s Super Mom competition, a nationwide campaign raising funds and awareness for Children’s Miracle Network. To be completely transparent, I am hoping for votes to help me win the competition and to fuel support for the cause. As a parent, new fears arise and knowing that there is a place like the Children’s Miracle Network to find support, if needed, is a comfort.

Through this competition, I have the opportunity to link the supportive people in my life with a great cause while also competing to “level up” my family. This experience has been incredibly meaningful because as a solo parent with young kids, I can feel disconnected and alone in this journey of motherhood. We moved from California to New Jersey in 2021, when my children were babies, to start over in my hometown of West Caldwell. I left an abusive marriage to give my kids and I the best chance at life, and really leaned on the support of my family and friends. The support I received has been life changing. I am filled with hope at what winning this competition could mean for my family.

If I win, I plan to use the prize money to upgrade our car as my kids grow and take on more activities around West Caldwell. I also plan to pay off debt and invest in our future now that I am divorced and solo parenting where it all lies on my shoulders. I want to do better for my kids as the head of our family while also remaining fun and spontaneous. I do my best and parenthood is full of challenges, winning a dream vacation would be a phenomenal way to celebrate my kids. They have truly changed my life.
