There's a New Doctor in Town

The Doctors' Office, a walk-in urgent care center, opens in West Caldwell.

On a whim, Joy Batistick and her husband, Jim, took a tour of The Doctors' Office, a walk-in urgent care center that opened on March 31 in West Caldwell. While Batistick was impressed with the facility and the medical personnel, she did not imagine she would be needing their services anytime soon.

That all changed a few days later when she woke up and realized,"something was not right." Rather than waiting to get an appointment with her regular physician, Batistick decided to try , and was happy she did.

"The office manager and the medical assistant were great. They took me into an exam room and the doctor was very thorough," she said. Batistick said she was pleased with the professionalism of everyone, noting that they even called her a few days later to follow up.

As Dr. Alvin Goldberg , one of the four owners, explained, many of the doctors associated with this practice, including himself, are Emergency Room trained physicians. "We saw people going to the ER and waiting a long time for so many small things. We offer an alternative to the ER."

While Goldberg stressed anyone with a life threatening condition should still be transported to an ER, The Doctors' Office is trained and equipped to cover a variety of common non-life threatening illnesses for adults and children.

Because the physicians have urgent care and emergency medicine expertise, Goldberg said they have the ability to cover minor injuries such as lacerations, dislocations and simple fractures and minor cuts and burns.

The center has a spacious waiting room, several exam rooms, a lab for collecting blood and urine samples, and a digital X-ray machine, something Goldberg said many primary care physicians do not offer their patients.

Goldberg opened The Doctors' Office in Paramus a year-and-a-half ago. He said he decided to open the second location in West Caldwell since this area is heavily populated, but does not have many primary care physicians.

Since West Caldwell is a "shopping hub," Goldberg is hoping this will attract a walk-in clientele. As for location, it cannot by anymore convenient than to be adjacent to the, he said.

Goldberg said he had a familiarity with West Caldwell and its residents. He is pleased several people have come in daily just to "see who we are."

As for Batistick, she is hoping The Doctors' Office is here to stay. "This is exactly what we need," she remarked.
