W. Caldwell's Wujciak Commits to Boston College

Another chapter in the Wujciak family's significant legacy in big-time college football is about to be written.

West Caldwell resident Connor Wujciak, who will be a senior at Seton Hall Prep in the fall, verbally committed to Boston College on Friday that he will continue his football career in Chestnut Hill in 2011.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Wujciak, a defensive end and fullback, will join the ranks of his father, Alan, and brother, Alex, who have each also played Division-I football. 

Alan Wujciak was an offensive guard on the 1974 University of Notre Dame National Championship team and Alex Wujciak will be a senior linebacker at the University of Maryland this fall. 

Connor Wujciak, who will play defensive end in college, received 10 offers and narrowed the list to five—Boston College, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Rutgers.

Wujciak, whose younger sister, Megan, was a standout freshman member of Mount St. Dominic's swimming and lacrosse teams this year, visited Boston College twice—once earlier this spring and then again last week—and knew it was the right fit for him.

"I just liked everything about it,'' said Wujciak, who recorded 64 tackles, 11 sacks, three fumble recoveries, one blocked punt and one blocked field-goal attempt last year. "The second visit solidified it. I was comfortable there. It was the place for me.''

Wujciak, who will officially sign a National Letter of Intent on Feb. 2, can finally breathe a sigh of relief now that the process is over.

"I feel like I've lost 50 pounds," he joked. "It just took a few weeks to think it over and I just made the call."

Wujciak said he appreciated the support and guidance from Seton Hall Prep coach John Finnegan, trainer Larry Baggit and his personal trainer, Don Sellari, of Fairfield-based Sports University. 

Wujciak also said he spoke to former Seton Hall Prep star running back Andre Callender, who had a standout career at Boston College and was even considered an NFL prospect a few years ago.

"I talked to him a bunch,'' Wujciak said.

But before heading to college, Wujciak's focus is to help Seton Hall Prep to another successful season. The team finished 9-2 last fall, losing to Don Bosco Prep in the Non-Public IV semifinals.

Wujciak's blocking last season helped teammates Kevin Monangai and Rory Merklinger each rush for more than 1,000 yards.
