WATCH: N.J. Firefighters Combat Large Structure Fire In Essex County

The blaze at the Pio Costa building on Bloomfield Avenue in Fairfield raged for several hours, authorities said.

Essex County firefighters and emergency responders from more than a dozen agencies spent several hours battling a raging structure fire at the Pio Costa building on Bloomfield Avenue in Fairfield on Sunday.

The blaze began around 11:45 p.m. on Saturday and burned until 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, with a small flare-up taking place around 6:30 a.m., West Essex Now reported.

According to Fairfield Assistant Chief Timothy Connolly, fire crews met with “heavy fire conditions” on arrival and mounted an aggressive initial attack, managing to halt the spread of the fire to the adjacent buildings.

“The main body of fire was located in building #3 units 53 and 52, which are now deemed a total loss,” Connolly stated.

Nobody was injured in the conflagration, and the cause of the fire is under investigation, New Jersey News 12 reported.

Agencies that assisted the Fairfield Fire Department at the incident included the Fairfield Police Department, the West Essex First Aid Squad and fire agencies from West Caldwell, North Caldwell, Caldwell, Pine Brook, Roseland, Verona, Cedar Grove, Lincoln Park, Little Falls, Essex Fells, Wayne, Totowa and Nutley.
