West Caldwell’s students will be missing a familiar face this school year… longtime crossing guard Barbara Matthews.

On Aug. 20, West Caldwell Police Captain Gerard Paris sent residents in Matthews’ former territory a letter alerting them of her retirement.

“School crossing guard Barbara Matthews has announced her retirement as of the beginning of the 2015-16 school year. Barbara has been a guard for over 30 years and spent most of her time at the Pine Tree Place crossing.”
