West Caldwell Council Adopts Amended Budget

More than $200,000 worth of reductions and increased revenue cut tax hike to 2.1%.

The Township of West Caldwell's Local Municipal Budget for the year of 2010, which was initially introduced in March as "a temporary budget," was adopted with amendments at a special meeting held Tuesday night.

Initially introduced in March at , the budget has since been reduced to $18,497,723.97 with an approximately 2.1 percent tax hike, Jock Watkins, the town's clerk and acting administrator, reported at a council conference meeting held on Sept. 7.

West Caldwell Mayor Joseph Tempesta indicated at Tuesday night's meeting that this budget had nothing to do with the school or the county budget, but only related to the municipality of West Caldwell.

The governing body initially introduced in March what Tempesta called a "temporary budget" that included a 4 percent tax increase. More than $200,000 worth of reductions and additional revenue have been found since that will reduce the tax hike in half.

Amendments to the budget were presented at the Sept. 7 council conference meeting.
