UPDATED: Snowstorm Info For The Caldwells (Parking, Shoveling)
Read Caldwell, North Caldwell and West Caldwell officials' reminders for local residents in advance of a serious snowstorm forecast.

CALDWELLS, NJ — As the weather forecast keeps getting worse for what may be the biggest snowstorm to hit New Jersey this season, officials in the Caldwells are reminding local residents to follow municipal laws about overnight parking and snow shoveling.
WEST CALDWELL ALERTS
On Tuesday morning, the West Caldwell Police Department issued the following advisory:

“Due to the upcoming storm there will be NO OVERNIGHT PARKING on any West Caldwell roadways [on March 6] and through the duration of the impending cleanup. Also as a reminder, residents and business owners are reminded to clear all snow/ice from all properties located in the township within 24 hours of the initial snow fall in accordance with West Caldwell Local Ordinance 6-9.1. Thank you for your anticipated cooperation.”

West Caldwell police later added:
"Garbage & Recycling pick up originally scheduled for Wednesday March 7, 2018 has been cancelled and will be collected on your next scheduled pick up date. Also West Caldwell Municipal Court Hearings scheduled for Wednesday March 7, 2018 at 5:30 pm have also been cancelled. Thank you for your cooperation."
NORTH CALDWELL ALERTS

The North Caldwell Police Department issued the following advisory on Tuesday:
"Overnight street parking will be prohibited on all borough roadways until further notice due to the amount of snowfall in our area. During and after the storm roadways will need to be cleaned and treated and must be clear of any vehicles. No overnight permission will be granted. Also all residents and business/property owners are reminded to remove any and all snow/ice from their properties within 24 hours after the snow has ceased falling or the ice has formed thereon in accordance with B.O. 88-20. Thank you for your assistance in this matter."
North Caldwell police added:
"Due to the predicted snowstorm, trash collection scheduled for Wednesday, March 7 is cancelled. All residents with a normal Wednesday collection will have trash next collected on Saturday, March 10. Comingled recycling collection scheduled for Wednesday March 7 is also cancelled. On next Wednesday, March 14, paper and cardboard will be collected as scheduled and a special comingled collection has been added. The normal recycling collection schedule will resume on Wednesday, March 21 with collection of comingled materials."
CALDWELL ALERTS
The Caldwell Police Department issued the following advisory on Tuesday evening:
"The Borough of Caldwell and the Caldwell Police Department would like to inform our residents of the hazardous road conditions due to the pending snow storm. We urge all our residents to please stay at home and not to brave these hazardous conditions unless it is a dire emergency that you must travel out on these roadways."
The CPD added:
"Also, we urge all residents not to park your vehicles in the roadway overnight or during the snow storm so the roads can be cleared properly as per our Borough Ordinance 230-37, 'Parking on snow-covered streets prohibited.'"
The Caldwell Borough Ordinance for the clearing of sidewalks and walkways is listed below:
§ 207-8 Removal of snow and ice; time limit.[Amended 2-24-2004 by Ord. No. 1139-04; 5-6-2014 by Ord. No. 1290-14] The owner of lands abutting the public streets of the Borough shall remove or cause to be removed from abutting sidewalks of said lands:A. If the land is used for commercial purposes, all snow and ice within four hours after the same shall have accumulated thereon, or by 12:00 noon, whichever is later.B. If the land is used for residential purposes, all snow and ice within eight hours after the same shall have accumulated thereon, or by 8:00 p.m., whichever is later.
Caldwell police also reminded residents not to clear snow from sidewalks or driveways into the public roadways as per Borough Ordinance: § 207-9:
Formation of banks and mounds. [Amended 7-13-1999 by Ord. No. 1073-99; 5-6-2014 by Ord. No. 1290-14]A. No person owning property within the Borough shall allow any snow or ice to be removed from any driveway owned by said person or from any sidewalk abutting a p ublic street and placed or deposited in any public street or upon any public sidewalk within the Borough.B. An owner of property from which snow or ice is removed from any driveway or sidewalk in violation of Subsection A shall be responsible for the violation and subject to the provisions of §§ 207-10 and 207-11.
"Please keep in mind that fire hydrants near your residence should be cleared from snow in case of emergency," Caldwell police stated Tuesday. "As the day moves on and the night falls upon us, the temperatures will drop to low levels which will cause freezing and create an even more hazardous travelling condition. Please allow our Department of Public Works and the County of Essex to clear the roadways and make them safe for travel."
