West Essex High School Seniors Enjoyed Senior Breakfast

 Before graduation, West Essex High School seniors had the chance to enjoy breakfast, spend time together as a class and read letters they wrote to themselves in Middle School.

The West Essex High School PTO catered the event as a gift to seniors June 18 with bacon and eggs, pastries etc. Seniors signed yearbooks, spent time with friends and received short notes that they wrote to themselves in elementary school and then letters and gifts they put in envelopes for themselves back in the eighth grade. Some seniors burst out laughing reading about their friends and things they liked to do. "I used to watch the television show "Full House" after school," David DeRosa laughed about with Matt Dignazio, both of Fairfield. Matt's letter brought back memories of his love of being a baseball pitcher. "I blew out my arm in the eighth grade," he said, adding now he enjoys wrestling and football and misses being a baseball pitcher.

"This is so weird," Nicolette De Vincenzo of Fairfield laughed at her eight-page letter. "It is so weird to see how my friends have changed."

Bernice Atienza of Roseland laughed and read her letter with Zaira Boranukara of Fairfield. Bernice wrote her letter in Tagalog, her native language from the Philippines.

"Some students put money in their letters," said Middle School English Teacher Susan Giordano, who handed out the eighth grade letters with Middle School English Teacher James Massa. Other puts gifts like jewelry.

Afterwards, it was time for graduation practice with the big day approaching on Sunday, June 22.
