West Essex High Student Breaks School Scoring Record

Shannon Bertscha makes it to 1,217 career points

West Essex High School varsity basketball player and senior Shannon Bertscha has broken the West Essex High School Girls’ Basketball Scoring record with 1,217 points.

She scored her final point at the end of the basketball team’s 17-10 season, where it won the Holiday Tournament and made it to the State Sectional Semi-Finals in Group 3.

Earlier this season, Bertscha scored her 1,000th career point at a game against University High School on Jan. 22.

Bertscha is a co-captain of the team and a resident of Roseland.

Bertscha was also honored at National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 1 as part of the NJSIAA 29th Anniversary celebration at Seton Hall University. Athletic Director Damion Macioci said he is proud of Bertscha’s accomplishments and her representation of West Essex Athletics.
