Young Drivers Play Dangerous Game, Wreck Car In Essex County: Police

"The fact that no one was seriously injured in this incident is truly a holiday miracle," a Fairfield police officer said.

Fairfield, NJ – There’s a reason that provisional drivers have restrictions on their licenses, according to a municipal police department in Essex County.

On Saturday night, that reason was almost demonstrated to tragic effect when a car with three teens – two males and a female - crashed on Route 46 around 8:30 p.m., according to the Fairfield Police Department.

Police stated that the two males were horsing around when one of them grabbed the steering wheel, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

The 2012 Hyundai slid on the grass, hit two snow plow blades that were on the ground and sandwiched itself between an unoccupied Chevrolet Blazer and a vacant dump truck on the rear property of 47 Fairfield Road, police said.

The uninjured teens refused emergency treatment from emergency responders, police stated.

“The fact that no one was seriously injured in this incident is truly a holiday miracle,” Dep. Chief Anthony Manna stated. “However, the accident only accentuates the reason why regulations are placed on provisional drivers and just how serious the operation of a motor vehicle actually is.”
