The Lafayette Mini Marathon took place on October 24, 2016 with an exciting turnout of 300 fourth and fifth grade students. Training for the race began in early September with after school practices preparing the students for the big day. All runners received a Mini Marathon race day shirt and medal when crossing the finish line
The race was kicked off at the starting line by members of the Chatham High School Band and the runners were cheered on by the Key Club, representatives from the Chatham Senior Center and numerous family members and friends. The Chatham Cross Country Team accompanied and encouraged the runners along the course which was a 1.6 mile loop beginning and ending at the school. The top fifth grade runners were Robert Patton (10:15) and Carly Albanese (11:36). The top fourth grade runners were Jasper Peters (10:16) and Lauren Tracey (11:41).
The 2016 Mini Marathon was organized by committee chair Brenda Colvin and the Lafayette gym teacher David Shellenhamer who worked hard to make the event such a big success. In addition, numerous volunteers were very generous with their time and energy and helped support the race from start to finish. Proceeds from the race will go to the Lafayette PTO and the Chatham Senior Center.
