Chatham Police's Campaign Urges Residents To Help Prevent Vehicle Thefts This Month

Officials encourage residents to stay vigilant in order to prevent vehicle thefts.

CHATHAM, NJ — The Chatham Police Department is reminding residents to take simple precautions to reduce the risk of vehicle theft as part of Vehicle Theft Prevention Month in July.

Through its "Lock It. Or Lose It." campaign, the department encourages drivers to always lock their vehicles, remove keys, take valuables with them, and park in well-lit, visible areas. Police say these basic steps can help deter thieves and reduce crimes of opportunity.

The campaign, conducted in partnership with the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police, emphasizes that many vehicle thefts and thefts from vehicles occur when cars are left unlocked or valuables are left in plain sight.

Officials encourage residents to stay vigilant.
