Chatham Library Puts Hope On The Agenda

Tuesday's virtual program will discuss mental health, depression, suicide prevention and finding support.

CHATHAM, NJ — The Library of the Chathams is putting hope on the calendar with a virtual conversation about mental health and finding support during difficult moments.

"You Are Not Alone: A Conversation About Hope and Support" will be held Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. on Zoom. The program is intended for adults, and registration is required through the library's calendar.

Laura Tyson, an experienced psychotherapist, licensed clinical social worker and licensed clinical alcohol and drug counselor, will lead the discussion. Tyson also has years of experience as a psychiatric crisis screener, supporting people experiencing mental health challenges and helping their family members and friends navigate difficult situations.

Organizers describe the program as a "thoughtful discussion" about mental health, depression, suicide prevention and hope. The presentation will include practical information, helpful resources and time for questions.

The conversation gives Chatham residents an opportunity to learn where support is available while making room for a subject that can be difficult to discuss openly.

Due to the personal nature of this topic, organizers ask that attendees join anonymously with their camera off on Zoom.

The event is part of the library's health and wellness programming in partnership with the library's STAY Advisory Committee. Residents can find information and register through the Library of the Chathams event listing before Tuesday's program.
