
SUMMIT, NEW JERSEY — The Junior League of Summit has announced the Board of Directors for the 2012-13 year. The Board will be led by President Heather Speas of Summit who succeeds Sara Sykes. Mrs. Speas will serve a one-year term.
Joining Speas is a group of women with a variety of personal, educational, and professional backgrounds who share the organization’s commitment to community service. They are: Colleen Markley, President-Elect; Kendall Hander, Recording Secretary; Lina DiBlasio, Administrative Secretary; Jolie Steppe, Membership VP; Cheryl Whitney, Projects VP; Laura Bojanowski, Communications VP; Corina Atanase, Community VP; Christina Goulding, Treasurer; Patty Lambert, Assistant Treasurer; Jane Schapker, Sustainer VP; Neely Dodge, Nominating/Placement Co-Chair; and Lisa Parkes, Nominating/Placement Co-Chair.
Speas and the Board of Directors will lead the organization this year as they work with the community to combat childhood obesity through physical activities and healthy eating habits in pre-school aged children. When asked about the prospects of her leadership role, Speas said, “I am very humbled to be able to serve such a wonderful organization as its President. We have an amazing history and tradition of service to the community, over eighty years, and I look forward to working with all of our members as we launch our new focus project, CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child’s Health) this upcoming year.”

Mrs. Speas joined the Junior League of Summit as a transfer in 2005 from the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills where she had been a member since her New Member year in 1998. She is a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Short Hills, where her husband is an Elder, and serves as an officer of a number of patriotic and lineage societies, including the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Descendants of the Founders of New Jersey. Mrs. Speas resides in Summit with her husband and two children.
