The Seeing Eye, Inc., is pleased to announce that Dr. George Sarle of Chatham Animal Hospital in Chatham, N.J., has been selected to receive The Seeing Eye Veterinary Recognition Award for outstanding service and care of Seeing Eye® dogs in the community.
Seeing Eye dog handler Sally Myers nominated Dr. George Sarle, her dogs’ vet for more than 10 years. In her nomination, she expressed appreciation for the many ways Dr. Sarle went above and beyond in the care of her guide dogs in the past and present.
Myers described how the veterinarian always schedules appointments for her dogs promptly and takes her calls no matter how busy his day might be. She was particularly touched by the sensitivity and understanding Dr. Sarle showed as he visited her home to help her care for her retired Seeing Eye dog, Aspen, before his passing.

“I was so moved by Dr. Sarle’s quiet and gentle manner,” Myers said. “During the course of his busy day at the hospital, he carefully scheduled in time to help Aspen and me get through Aspen’s very difficult last day. This veterinarian’s manner and kindness have been consistent throughout the 10 plus years I have known him.”
The veterinary recognition award is presented to veterinarians who offer outstanding service and dedication to fostering the health and well-being of Seeing Eye dogs, thereby enhancing independence and mobility for people who are blind and visually impaired. Award winners receive a plaque to hang in their office, a letter of appreciation and they are acknowledged in the organization’s annual report.
