Bank of America Branch in Township Closes
Bank officials say the branch's customers can go to nearby locations in the borough and in Madison.
The Bank of America branch on Shunpike Road in the township closed on Friday, clearing the way for branches in the borough and Madison to absorb its customers.
Bank of America spokesman T.J. Crawford confirmed that the branch closed last week. Today, workers walked in and out of the bank's former building, hauling equipment out to a truck.
A stready stream of cars passed by, and people rolled down their windows to ask workers whether the bank's ATMs were still open, or whether the bank had closed. No, workers said, the ATMs were no longer functional. And neither was the bank.

The exterior of the building—located at 640 Shunpike Road—has been scrubbed clean, and there is no sign of its former status as a Bank of America branch, save for a decal on the front door.
Crawford said there were other locations nearby where the branch's customers could go. The borough location at 269 Main St. is about one mile away from the former branch, and a Bank of America at 117 Main St. in Madison is also close by.

It didn't make sense to keep the branch open, he said, with the other locations nearby.
Crawford said its employees have been moved to other local branches.
A July Wall Street Journal article reported that former Bank of America Chief Executive Officer Ken Lewis said the bank planned to cut its branches by 10 percent.
Crawford said the building, which Bank of America owned, was placed on the market in an open bid process and is now under contract.
