Big Apple Crunch at the Madison Area YMCA Family Center and F.M. Kirby Children's Center

Y Kicks off Healthy U, a program that emphasizes healthy eating

The Madison Area YMCA Family Center and F.M. Kirby Children’s Center celebrated the kickoff of the Healthy U program with the Big Apple Crunch. Healthy eating is a key component of the program.

Madison Mayor Bob Conley and farmer Anthony Vacchiano of Vacchiano Farm from Washington Township led the Big Apple Crunch. A vendor at the Madison Farmers Market for 24 years, Vacchiano Farm donated delicious Blondee apples and Red Liberty apples, a new variety of apple, for the event. Mayor Conley discussed “go, slow and woah” foods with the children. Students at the Kirby Center enjoyed CATCH activities before eating their apples, a "go” food. They also learned the importance of buying local and about seasonal foods.
