Bomb Squad Called Into Chatham

Suspicious package was found on a Coleman Avenue resident's driveway.

CHATHAM, NJ - The Bomb Squad was called out to a Coleman resident's home after a suspicious package left in a resident's driveway was reported on Nov. 7, according to Chatham Borough Police Chief Brian Gibbons.

The device was a small shaving cream canister wrapped with electrical tape and wire simulating an explosive device, police said. The area was cordoned off and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called out to assess the package, police said.

The Bomb Squad x-rayed the package and it was determined that it was not dangerous.

The device was seized as the Chatham Borough Detective Bureau continues to investigate. Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the NJ Department of Homeland Security were notified.

Gibbons said he wanted to remind everyone to follow the Homeland Security campaign “if you see something, say something” and report any suspicious activity.
