Borough Driver Charged with DWI

arrested a borough resident for driving under the influence Thursday night.
At 11:59 p.m., Patrolman Andrew Chase was on patrol on Main Street near Hedges Avenue when he observed a Ford Explorer fail to stop at the Hedges Avenue stop sign, police said.
The driver lost control of the vehicles trying to turn right onto Main Street, according to police. The car struck a street sign and came to rest in the parking lot at 140 Main St., police said.

Chase made contact with the driver, who was identified as Richard Ivancich, 41, of Chatham Borough, according to police.
Ivancich showed signs of intoxication and Chase administered several field sobriety tests, police said.

Ivancich was transported to headquarters for processing and was eventually released to a family member, pending further court action, according to police.
Ivancich was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failing to stop at a stop sign and failure to exhibit documents, police said.
