Car Stolen From Chatham Used In Mother's Day Crime Spree
A stolen car from Chatham was used in several crimes, including an armed robbery and assault, police said.

CHATHAM, NJ - An unlocked car stolen from Southern Boulevard was used in crime spree on Mother's Day that included an armed robbery where a woman was pistol-whipped, according to the Chatham Township Police Department.
According to authorities, in the early morning hours on Mother's Day, an unlocked vehicle with its ignition keys left inside, was stolen from a Southern Boulevard residence and the car was used in the commission of several serious crimes in other towns.
One of those crimes was the robbery and assault of a woman that was caught on surveillance video.

In the video obtained by ABC7News, on Ferry Street in Newark's Ironbound district outside Lisbon Wines & Liquors one of three Mother's Day muggings occurred that police believe were committed by the same men.

In the video, two armed men exit the back of the stolen Chatham car and police said one man grabbed grabbed a woman's purse while the other struck her with his pistol. Both returned to the car, which fled the scene.
Authorities noted one person was eventually arrested but two others remain at large.
For their part, the Chatham Township Police Department are urging residents to lock all vehicles and remove the vehicles ignition keys and FOB when the vehicle is parked and unoccupied.
They also cautioned motorists to never leave any valuables inside the vehicles and report suspicious activity to the Chatham Township Police at 973-377-0100.
