Chatham Bowling Falls to Top-Ranked Jefferson

Devito rolls 220 game in loss.

ROCKAWAY — Facing the two best teams in your division back to back is never fun – but it's something that the Chatham Cougars bowling team was forced to do as it faced No. 1 ranked Jefferson High School at Rockaway Lanes on Thursday Night. It did so just two nights after falling to No. 2 ranked Butler High School.

Because it was facing a powerhouse like Jefferson, the young Chatham team could only hope to throw their best out and hope that Jefferson might falter somewhere along the way. The latter didn't happen, though, as Jefferson brought its A game, winning the three games by scores of 968-861, 924-812 and 989-716.

Senior Tommy Devito, who totaled a 524 score, led Chatham in the loss. His 220 game was tops on the team.

Cougar freshman standout Bailey Bancroft rolled two 183 games on his way to a score of 518 and senior Brandon Kaufman totaled 516 pins for the match.

But it wasn't enough to stop Jefferson. The Falcons fired six games over 200.

The Falcons' top performer was Matt Baron, who rolled a team high 265 on his way to a 665 total. Heather Van Dyk chipped in with two games over 220 on her way to a 634 score, and Chris Sanham rolled a 245 in the third game to seal the victory for Jefferson.

Next up for Chatham is a matchup against Madison on Tuesday at 4pm at Rockaway Lanes.
