Chatham Boy Starts Petition to Increase Recycling Pick up in Township
Jay Pruitt urges Chatham Township residents to sign his petition for more recycling.
Chatham Township resident Jay Pruitt has started a campaign for increased recycling pick up in the Township. Directed toward Mayor Curt Ritter and the Township Committee, the petition claims that by increasing recycling pick up to weekly versus the current every other week, people will recycle more.
Jay, a 7th grader at Morristown-Beard School, started the petition as a supplement to a class assignment to write a persuasive letter. As he is charged with hauling the family’s garbage and recycling to the curb, Jay is quite aware of the disparity between the amounts of trash collected twice a week compared to the bulging bins of recycling collected every other week. It is his opinion that people will recycle more if it is more convenient to do so such as offering a weekly recycling pick up.
Pruitt isn’t the only one that thinks there should be a weekly recycling collection in the Township. After creating an online petition, it noticed and acknowledged, generating over 100 signatures from Township residents in under 24 hours. Jay hopes to reach 1,000 signatures to accompany his persuasive letter to Mayor Ritter. If anyone would like to sign Jay’s petition, go to http://www.thepetitionsite.com/951/962/762/more-recycling-days/#sign. Jay and the earth thank you.
