CHATHAM, NJ - The Chatham Police Department is inviting families to Colony Pool on Aug. 6 to celebrate the culmination of National Night Out.

This year the Chatham Township Police Department and local officials are hosting an event that all residents are invited to attend from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The evening will include free fun, food, music and giveaway, according to organizers.

The National Association of Town Watch designated Aug. 6 as the capstone to join millions of neighborhoods across the nation in celebration of National Night Out.

National Night Out is a community building campaign designed to:

  • heighten crime prevention awareness
  • generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
  • strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

According to organizers, this is a night for America to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer nation, officials said. On NNO, the community is invited to “give crime a going away party."
