Chatham Elementary Students Win Big In Stock Market Game

Caden Barber and Nick Pacchia grew a portfolio 20 percent in the year-long competition.

CHATHAM, NJ - Lafayette Elementary School students Caden Barber and Nick Pacchia used some savvy investing skills to earn a second place victory in the Stock Market Game Challenge in the Northeast Region.

The grade school student's performance was better than some high school teams.

According to their website, the Stock Market Game is an online simulation of the global capital markets that engages students grades 4-12 in the world of economics, investing and personal finance and that has prepared 17 million students for financially independent futures.

The students, mentored by Teacher of Design and Technology Kyle Kermick used the "SIFMA Foundation's Stock Market Game" website to generate an online portfolio that they would maintain. In a year-long competition they generated a portfolio with 20 percent growth which placed them second against 184 teams. They were honored at a luncheon on May 22 in Jersey City.
