Chatham High School Seniors Celebrate Interfaith Service

The service was held at St. Patrick's Church Monday evening.

St. Patrick's Church was filled to capacity Monday night as the 2010 senior class of Chatham High School participated in an Interfaith Baccalaureate Service. Just 24 hours before their graduation ceremony, the members of the class, their families, friends and clergy celebrated with prayer, music and praise.

A highly symbolic portion of the ceremony included the presentation and mixing together of the holy waters of the many area churches of which the students are members. Floating candles were lit afterward.

The Chatham High School Select Choir and Chatham Voices filled the church with beautiful music. There was a slide presentation and a "sing-a-long" to "The Circle Game," and students provided readings from the Bible and other documents.

St. Patrick's Youth Minister Maggie Grady provided guiding words for the graduates' future.

"The youth are the future of the world. This gives me a wonderful feeling of hope," she said. "You are the up and coming leaders; you are the generation that will set the trends that we will follow."
