Chatham Man Allegedly Ditched Needles During Arrest: Cops

CHATHAM, NJ - A resident who allegedly tried to ditch hypodermic needles when arrested was jailed on a series of outstanding warrants, according to the Chatham Borough Police Department.

Officer Wayne Shivers arrested Michael Serillo, 29, for possession of hypodermic needles and for several active arrest warrants on Oct. 19, police said. According to police, Shivers is familiar with Serillo and was aware of his numerous active arrest warrants when he observed him walking on Main Street. Shivers approached Serillo and informed him that he was under arrest for the warrants, police said. Upon hearing this Serillo allegedly began discarding hypodermic needle in plain view of the officer, police said.

Serillo was transported to police headquarters for processing and was charged with possession of hypodermic needles and being unable to post bail on the numerous warrants, police said.

Serillo was turned over to members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Department and incarcerated in the Morris County Correctional Facility, police said.

  • On Oct. 12 Officer Michael Permison arrested Justin Brooks, 19, from Union Township, on two active traffic contempt of court warrants issued by the Municipality of Millburn, police said. Permison initiated a motor vehicle stop for speeding and a customary check uncovered the warrants, police said. Brooks was transported to police headquarters for processing where he was issued summonses for speeding, driving while suspended, driving while the registration is revoked, improper display of license plates and failure to maintain lights on a motor vehicle, police said. Unable to post the required bail, Brooks was turned over to members of the Millburn Police Department, police said.
