Chatham Man Charged With DWI In School Zone: Madison Police
Richard V. Roche refused to submit breath samples to officers, police said.
MADISON, NJ - A 36-year-old Chatham man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a motor vehicle stop on March 2, according to the Madison Police Department.
According to authorities, Patrolman Christopher Burans stopped Richard V. Roche’s vehicle on Madison Avenue for a moving violation. Upon speaking with Roche, Burans immediately observed obvious signs of impairment, police said. Roche was asked to perform field sobriety evaluations on roadside and was then placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated, police said.
After an investigation, he was additionally charged impeding traffic, reckless driving, DWI in a school zone, and failing to submit breath samples, police said.

He was later released to a friend and he is awaiting his court appearance in Madison Municipal Court.
