Chatham Named Best Public High School in New Jersey

New Jersey Monthly Magazine's bi-annual rankings put Cougar nation at top of list of more than 300 public schools.

We’re number one! We’re number one!

That’s what Chatham High School can say, after it was ranked by New Jersey Monthly Magazine as the best public high school in the Garden State.

The magazine’s bi-annual rankings, which will hit newsstands Aug. 26, shows the home of the Cougars taking over the top spot from New Providence High School (which dropped to number six), and leading a list of five Morris County high schools ranked in the top 20 (Mendham High School, West Morris Central High School, Mountain Lakes High School and Kinnelon High School).

Chatham High School combines students from Chatham Borough and Chatham Township, and was ranked No. 20 in 2012.

The magazine’s rankings incorporate factors into its methodology from the 2012-13 school year, including SAT and HSPA scores, AP and IB tests, and graduation rates. New to the rankings this year are the IB tests scores and Student Outcomes, or the percentage of that school’s graduates who are enrolled in a two- or four-year college at least 16 months after high school.
