Chatham Senior Center Offers Programs for Fall

Chatham Senior Center offers diverse programming this fall.

Senior Services of the Chathams, a nonprofit agency serving the needs of older adults for 26 years, has reopened for fall. Numerous enrichment programs are offered including exercise classes, card games, art, a nutrition series, book clubs and much more. Programs are held at 58 Meyersville Rd, Chatham. A bus for Chatham residents is offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Below is a list of upcoming programs.

DVD SERIES – Mondays, Sept. 12 – Oct. 3 at 10:30am. The Great Courses lecture series, “The Aging Brain.” Growing older may beinevitable, but mental decline is not. Each session consists of three 30-minute lectures. No need to sign up.

KATI’S YOGA – Tues. 10 – 11am, beginning Sept.13. Exercises and stretches with attention to effective breathing, for all levels of ability. $40/6-week session; $9/class. Instructor: Kati Walker.

NUTRITION SERIES - Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 12:45pm. “Apples!” Jenn Luster, RD from Chatham ShopRite, will provide recipes for this healthy, tasty & versatile fall fruit. Always a tasting! No sign-up.

SOCIAL DANCING - Tuesdays at 1 – 3:00pm (1pm to 2:15 – instruction; 2:15 to 3pm – practice). $30 for 6-week session or $7 per class. Session from Sept. 13 – Oct. 18. Instructors Frank Pagano and Ramona Rademacher will lead participants with or without a partner in “ballroom” dances. All levels.

REFLECTIONS – Tuesdays at 2pm – 3:15pm, beginning Sept. 13. Women’s friendship and support group discusses issues that concern mature women. New members always welcome!

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOPs – Thurs. 10am – 12pm or 12:45 – 2:45pm, Sept. 15 – Oct. 20. With award-winning watercolorist Ed Schuh. $50/6-class session. $60 for under age 60.

BOOK CLUB – Tues. Sept. 20 at 12pm. “Jude the Obscure” – Thomas Hardy’s final completed novel. Participants do not need to be Chatham residents.

BALANCE WORKSHOPS – Thursdays 1:30- 2:30pm or 2:30 – 3:30pm, Sept. 22 – Dec. 1. Improve balance with targeted exercises in class and to do at home. Maintain independence and increase functionality in daily life. Instructor: Donna Sue Dowton. $50 (10 classes + workbook). Limited class size. Must sign up.

“WELCOME ALL” BBQ – Friday, Sept 23 at noon. Come in for a burger or hot dog – reconnect with old friends or make some new ones. Must sign up by Monday, Sept. 19. Bus service available for Chatham residents only. This free event is sponsored by TD Bank.

NONFICTION BOOK GROUP - Friday, Sept. 30, at 11am. “Daughters of the Samurai” by Janice P. Nimura.

BEGINNER BRIDGE SERIES begins Tuesday, October 4 at 10am – 12:30pm. For the true beginner, rusty player or anyone wanting to learn modern bidding. Instructor: Rick Hartley. $5/class + $15 book. Minimum 7 classes in series. Open to non-Chatham residents.
