Chatham Toddler Accidentally Run Over By Father: Police

CHATHAM, NJ - An 18-month-old toddler was hospitalized after her father accidentally struck her with the car in the driveway of their Southern Boulevard home, according to Chatham Township Police Chief Thomas Miller.

According to Miller, shortly after 7 a.m. Chatham Township officers responded to a Southern Boulevard residence for a report of an 18-month-old child struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, patrol found the victim, an 18-month-old female, lying in the driveway being cared for by her father, Miller said. According to the victim’s father, a Chatham Township resident, he was warming up his vehicle and then began moving it to the side of the house.

As he was driving the vehicle forward he realized that he had struck his daughter with his vehicle, Miller said. According to Miller, first aid was rendered at the scene by officers and member of the Chatham Emergency Squad.

The child was transported to an area hospital where she is listed in serious condition, Miller said.

The Chatham Township Police Department, with the assistance of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office CSI Unit, are continuing to investigate, Miller said.
