Chatham United Methodist Church holds Summer Art Installation

Chatham United Methodist Church is holding an art installation this Summer in their sanctuary. This is recent art, not directly related to what you might think: stations of the cross or depictions of Jesus. But rather pieces created by two young artists who discovered the congregation and started coming to services. Rachel Perryman and Mason Solari are showing paintings and tie-dye tapestries. When responding to an open invitation in a recent Sunday morning service to bring a piece of art that was meaningful to them, Rachel brought a piece she had painted. And that opened up a new avenue to the church: bringing art in to the sanctuary from artists that have a connection to the church and will fill the congregation spiritually.

About her paintings, Rachel describes: “I create to heal myself and others. I create to alchemize pain into beauty. I create to make the world a more beautiful place. I create to understand the creator.” And about the tie-dye tapestries, Mason states: “I like the challenge of turning chaos into order, taking nothing and turning it into something beautiful. Tie-dye can be anything you want it to be, it’s just about figuring out how to make it possible. Since colors and patterns directly impact how someone feels, I always seek to uplift others by sharing positivity through my art.”

Rachel and Mason will be providing a guided tour of the art pieces after the 10:00 a.m. service at Chatham UMC on Sunday, July 26th at 11:15 a.m. All are invited and welcome. Refreshments are served following the service and allowed in the sanctuary. The art installation will continue through the beginning of September and is viewable on Sunday mornings and during church operating hours.
