UPDATE: Millburn Cyclist Struck on Main Street

A garbage truck driven by a Morristown resident struck the cyclist.

Chatham Borough Police said a cyclist was struck on Main Street on the morning of Monday, Aug. 1, according to a statement released Wednesday.

According to the statement, patrols responded to the area of 331 Main St. at 7:37 a.m. on Aug. 1 after they received reports that a bicyclist was struck by a garbage truck.

Traffic Safety Officer Robert Sweetin investigated the crash and determined that James Lassiter, 51, of Millburn, was riding his bicycle east on Main Street when he was struck, police said.

A garbage truck driven by Ernest Todd, 44, of Morristown, was traveling in the same direction and attempted to turn right into a driveway when the bicyclist collided with the truck, police said.

According to police, Todd said he never saw the cyclist as he made the turn.

Lassiter was wearing his helmet, police said. He was transported to Overlook Hospital with minor injuries, according to the statement.

No summonses were issued, police said.

The area was cleared by 8:10 a.m.
