Diamond Dream: Chatham Man Throws Out First Pitch at Mets Game

James Bealer showed up to the stadium to celebrate his son's birthday and ended up taking the field.

When James Bealer thought to bring his family to a weekend Mets game to celebrate his oldest son’s birthday, he never imagined he’d be taking the field himself.

But on Sunday, May 17, the Chatham resident did just that, after being surprised by the Citi Perks team for using his Citi credit card at the stadium.

Bealer was taken down to the field and asked to throw out the game’sceremonial first pitch. He attended the game with his wife, Katie, and their sons, Jack and Charlie. The family was celebrating Jack’s fifth birthday.

Bealer follows James Vitucci of Staten Island as just the second person selected this season to throw out the first pitch for using their credit card at the Citi Field stadium.

As if the day could get any better, the Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 5-1 behind rookie pitcher Noah Syndergaard, who won his first game of the season.
