Drunk Driver Attacked Cop, Computer Monitor: Chatham Boro Police

CHATHAM, NJ - A 21-year-old East Hanover man shoved an officer and tossed a shoe at a computer monitor after a DWI arrest on March 13, according to the Chatham Borough Police Department.

According to authorities, shortly after 12:45 a.m. Officer Matthew Belcastro arrested Michael Redlich, age 21, from East Hanover, New Jersey for driving while intoxicated.

Belcastro initiated a motor vehicle stop for speeding on Main Street and he approached the driver, spoke with him and then requested that he exit his vehicle, police said. Redlich performed a series of field balance test and based on those observations was placed under arrest, police said.

He was transported to police headquarters and administered a breath test. Redlich became disorderly in headquarters, ultimately shoving Belcastro and throwing a shoe at a computer monitor, police said.
Redlich was charged with obstruction of law, criminal mischief, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, reckless driving, speeding and unclear license plate, police said.

He was later released into the care of a friend pending a court appearance.
