Newark School of the Arts to Celebrate Strong Women

Second-Annual Women’s History Month Exhibit Will Showcase Works of Local Female Artists

How does a woman navigate life in a man's world? What do you think of when you hear the term "strong woman?" The Newark School of the Arts (NSA) will provide female artists the chance to answer these questions by showcasing their talents in its second-annual “STRONG WOMEN” exhibit.

The exhibit, planned in celebration of Women’s History Month, will feature the creative endeavors of women in a variety of media including painting, drawing, photography and sculpture.

The opening reception will be held on Friday, March 25 from 6:30- 8:30 p.m. at the Newark School of the Arts, 89 Lincoln Park in Newark. Special guests will include poet Mia X and actress Donna Holmes.

Developed by Armisey Smith and Jade Ariella Lien, the exhibit will feature the works of more than two dozen artists from Newark and across the region. This is the second exhibit by Smith and Lien at NSA that focuses exclusively on the strengths and influence of female artists.

“As a premier provider of arts education for northern New Jersey, it is crucial that the Newark School of the Arts support and nurture the work of powerful and vibrant women artists in Newark and throughout the arts community,” said NSA Executive Director Dara Falco.

The exhibit will be featured at NSA from March 21 – April 21 and is free and open to the public. NSA offers free, on-site parking and is wheelchair accessible. Most works in the STRONG WOMEN exhibition will be for sale. A percentage of sales will go to support NSA's art programs.
