Fire Under Investigation In Chatham Borough (Photos)

CHATHAM, NJ - An early morning fire that destroyed a detached garage Friday is still under investigation, according to the Chatham Borough Police Department.

According to officials Sgt. Wayne Shivers, Officer Howard Craig and members of the Chatham Borough Fire Department responded to a Summit Avenue address on a report of a structure fire shortly after 2 a.m. where they found a detached garage in the rear of the property was fully engulfed in flames.

Additional Fire Departments from Chatham Township, Green Village and Madison responded to battle the blaze and the fire was extinguished with no report of injuries. Officials noted that the fire spread to several pieces of landscape equipment nearby and it took crews approximately two hours to extinguish the fire and clear the scene.

Detective Michael Permison arrived on scene to assist and the cause of the fire is still under investigation, police said.
