Go Back to School with Sustainable Style

everydayJun returns to the Farmers' Market with waste free lunch kits and snack packs.

While on the train into Manhattan from Short Hills every morning, Nancy Poletti said she and Justine Segal “were sort of lamenting the fact that we were putting Tupperware containers into bags that did not really fit it,” Poletti said.

Together the two decided to create waste-free lunch kids instead of using the throw-away paper bags. They named their company everydayJun and style their reusable lunch carriers like a messenger bag, making it good for bringing lunch to school or work.

Poletti said making life simpler was a priority in creating the style of the lunch kit. Everything included in everydayJun’s lunch kit is machine washable, dishwasher safe, lead-free and BPA-free.

“We wanted to make a bag that was machine washable because we were both finding [that with] a lot of [other reusable] bags after about three months they were moldy and smelly and had to be thrown away, defeating the whole idea of a waste-free concept,” Poletti said.

The messenger bags are both ecofriendly and stylish. Poletti and Segal created the lunch bags so that each bag has a tear-off panel on the front, making it easy to shift your look.

Each lunch kit includes a messenger bag, one removable front panel, a reusable lunch cube, a beverage bottle and spork (a spoon on one end and a fork on the other) for $42. There are also many front panel designs to choose from, such as polka dots, swirls, hearts and shoe designs. Each panel is sold for $9.95. Additionally, everydayJun now sells snack bags in a variety of designs.
