Have A Surveillance Camera? Chatham Twp. Police Want To Use It

Chatham Township Police want to use your home or business surveillance camera to solve crimes. We have the sign up sheet in the story.

CHATHAM, NJ - Residents and business owners can partner with the Chatham Township Police to solve crimes, and all they need to do is fill out a form.

Officials are looking for access to surveillance cameras at homes and businesses in the area. Video surveillance footage is one or the leading methods for law enforcement to identify, apprehend and convict criminals who are caught in the act, police said. After a crime has occurred police officers are often tasked with trying to identify what homes or businesses in the neighborhood may hold valuable video evidence.

This is why officials said they established a "Surveillance Camera Registration Program."

This program will allow the Chatham Township Police to quickly identify those homes or businesses with surveillance systems in areas of the township where a crime has occurred.

"As a member of this confidential program, you would simply provide us with your address, location of the surveillance cameras and a phone number where you can be reached. If a crime does occur in the area of your home or business, you may be contacted by an officer and asked to
review video footage," officials said in a release. "The establishment of this program and your participation is just another great example or our strong police-community partnership. Something we highly value in our continued commitment in keeping Chatham Township one of the safest communities in the country."
